Friends of the Bay to Offer Free Online Presentation on Diamondback Terrapins, May 27 at 7 p.m.

Friends of the Bay is pleased to offer its second free online presentation on May 27 at 7 p.m. as part of its 2020 Speaker Series. Join naturalist John Turner as he presents "Diamondback Terrapin: The Turtle with the Clown Lips." The lecture will provide an overview of one of Long Island's most iconic species - the Diamondback Terrapin, the only native turtle that occurs in brackish water.  You'll learn basic information about this fascinating reptile and most importantly what you can do to help it survive on Long Island.

 
John Turner is a Long Island naturalist, conservationist, writer, and a founding member of the Long Island Nature Organization and Long Island Pine Barrens Society. He currently serves as a Conservation Policy Advocate for the Seatuck Environmental Association and Conservation Chair of the Four Harbors Audubon Society.
 
The mission of Friends of the Bay, an environmental conservation organization located in Oyster Bay, is to preserve, protect and restore the ecological integrity and productivity of the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor estuary and the surrounding watershed. The Speaker Series is an informative and entertaining program of lectures and demonstrations aimed at providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the ecological, economic and historical importance of the estuary.
