SUMMARY:TOB - Street Dedication Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Town Board\, I am thrilled to announce that the Town of Oyster Bay will be ceremoniously dedicate a stretch of Audrey Avenue\, from South Street to Shore Road in Oyster Bay\, in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt on Thursday\, October 26th\, 2023 at 12:30 p.m.\n\n\n\nPlease mark your calendar now! We would be honored if you would join us for the dedication and street sign unveiling\, which will occur at the corner of Shore Road and Audrey Avenue\, outside of Town Hall\, near the Derby Hall Bandstand.\n\n\n\nThis occasion honors the incredible legacy of the 26th President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt\, who was world leader\, a writer\, conservationist\, outdoorsman\, and soldier with the United States Army. He won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1906 for mediating an end to the Russo-Japanese War\, and he secured the route and began construction of the Panama Canal. He formed the 1st U.S. Voluntary Calvary Regiment known as the Rough Riders\, and the National Parks Service and he received a Medal of Honor for his actions at San Juan Hill.\n\n\n\nTheodore Roosevelt spent his first summer in Oyster Bay with his family in 1874. Through the ensuing years as he rose to power\, Oyster Bay would frequently serve as backdrop and stage on which many of his ambitions were realized. Perhaps most famously\, Sagamore Hill was the home of Theodore Roosevelt from 1885 until his death in 1919 and served as his "Summer White House" during his presidency. For all of these reasons and more\, we are exceedingly proud to honor the historical legacy of Theodore Roosevelt right here in the Town he loved. I hope you can attend. \n\n\n\nJoseph Saladino\n\nTown Supervisor
